As a world-leader in the research areas of power semiconductor technology and devices, power electronics, nanotechnology and biometrics, and advanced numerical modelling of micro and nanoelectronic devices, Swansea University provides an excellent base for your research as a PhD or MPhil student in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

The Electronic Systems Design Centre (ESDC) is known for its ground-breaking research into Power IC technology, the key technology for more energy efficient electronics. The Centre is also a world-leader in semiconductor device modelling, FEM and compact modelling.

Within the Nanoelectronic Devices Computational Group, which forms part of the Electronic Systems Design Centre, previous projects have included:

  • Parallel 3D Finite Element Monte Carlo Device Simulations Of Multigate Transistors
  • Modelling of Metal-Semiconductor Contacts for the Next Generation of Nanoscale Transistors 
  • Novel GaN HEMT Switches for Power Management: Device Design, Optimization and Reliability Issues

Campus Information

Bay Campus

Travelling west on the M4 leave the motorway at junction 42 and follow signs for Swansea on the A483 (Fabian Way). The Bay Campus is situated to the left-hand side of Fabian Way and the main entrance is controlled by traffic lights. There is a Visitors’ Car Park immediately to the left of the main entrance. There is a large Park and Ride facility located at Fabian Way, which is a short distance from the Bay Campus.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for DProf must normally hold an undergraduate degree at 2.1 level (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University).

India

  • Bachelor: 60%; or
  • CGPA 6.7 (10 point system); or
  • CGPA 6 (7 point system); or
  • CGPA 3 (4 point system)

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Requirement

Non UK/EU applicants are required to obtain ATAS clearance for this programme of study. Successful applicants are sent ATAS application details by the University PGR Admissions team.
