Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Industrial Engineering)
Industrial Engineering technicians / technologists develop concepts, designs and systems for manufacturing processes and services. They work with many different specialists like material scientists, engineers, manufacturing and services team leaders, marketers and accountants to develop new efficient processes, quality assurance protocols and systems.
If you have a flair for solving problems and for doing a job in the most efficient way possible, then Industrial Engineering is a profession that you should consider.
Industrial Engineers learn how to harness the use of a diverse range of resources such as people, technology and mechanics in a configuration that will achieve the optimum results. In their studies they also learn how to analyse the way work is done and how people and machines interact so that they can design the way to get the desired outcome in the cheapest, fastest and most effective manner.
Industrial Engineers work in the design and improvement of production lines or manufacturing systems. More and more they are also used in services such as hospitals, banks and transport. The work of an Industrial Engineer is very diverse and in their work they may be working on site, in an office or at a design table. Although much of their work is purely technical, they also interact extensively with people and therefore people skills are also desired.
