MA in Modern English Literature
Run by the English Department in Mary Immaculate College since 2002, this highly-successful and popular one-year taught Master of Arts programme in Modern English Literature has graduated over 146 students and 97% of these students have graduated with an honours MA degree.
Key Features
The aims of the programme are:
To widen and deepen student's knowledge and appreciation of English literature and contemporary critical theory
To familiarise students with traditional and modern technological sources for research in English literature
To equip students with the knowledge and skills required for doctoral studies
To enhance students' career opportunities
Numbers each year are capped at 10 so that individual attention is guaranteed. All students are required to take six modules and submit a thesis. Part-time students may also be admitted but in their case completion of the programme will take two years.
Modules will be delivered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the academic year from 4-6pm.

Mary Immaculate College is an autonomous, university-level, Catholic College of Education and the Liberal Arts. Founded in 1898, and linked academically with the University of Limerick, MIC is the oldest higher education institution in Limerick.
Significant expansion in recent decades has seen the College’s menu of educational programmes expand across two impressive campuses, one based in the heart of Limerick City and one in Thurles, Co. Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Postgraduate (Taught) Entry Requirements
A four-year or three-year honours degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university. First-division results are required with a minimum overall grade of 60%*.
Particular programmes may require an interview and/or work experience.
Indian students must provide full transcripts/full marks sheets of each academic year. A consolidated marks sheet is not sufficient as a standalone.

The minimum score of 110 with no less than 100 in any component. An interview may also be required in conjunction with this test for certain programmes.
Results in examinations other than those listed above may also be accepted as meeting our English language requirements.
If students do not meet the English language requirements above, there are a range of short-term English language programmes offered at MIC.
