What you will study
Our MSc in Infrastructure Engineering and Management explores the planning, design, analysis and management frameworks of infrastructure systems.
This course is designed to develop your technical knowledge of infrastructure engineering within a social, economic, environmental and political context; the factors that affect and drive infrastructure planning and funding; and the interdependent nature of infrastructure across different sectors.
As a student on this course, you’ll acquire a sound understanding of the entire life-cycle of infrastructure assets, the environmental impact of infrastructure projects, infrastructure finance models, Building Information Modelling (BIM), sustainable decision-making and formal asset-management techniques.
You’ll be able to use the knowledge you gain from this course for the creation of new infrastructure as well as the management of existing systems.
Distance learning
Surrey is one of the only universities in the UK to offer MSc courses in civil and environmental engineering through distance learning. This flexible option allows you to study for our distinctive, accredited MSc courses from anywhere in the world, without the need to relocate or give up your existing job.
As a distance learner, you will study eight modules and complete a dissertation in your chosen subject (like full-time and part-time students) but can take up to five years to complete your masters. You’ll be able to access all module materials through our virtual learning environment SurreyLearn and arrange to take end-of-module exams at a local university.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
A minimum of 60 per cent in a UK honours degree in civil engineering accredited to CEng. Alternatively, a minimum of 70 per cent in a UK honours degree in civil engineering accredited to IEng. We'll also accept a recognised equivalent international qualification. At least five years of relevant industrial experience in the infrastructure sector will also be considered if you don’t meet these requirements.
