What you will study
Our MSc Bridge Engineering course is designed to provide you with a solid understanding of bridge analysis, design and management. If you’re a practicing bridge engineer, our MSc will enable you to update your existing knowledge and skills and familiarise yourself with new industry-relevant techniques.
This course covers a wide range of modules that address the whole life-analysis of bridges from design through to end-of-life. You’ll also have a choice of optional modules from the areas of:
- Structural engineering
- Geotechnical engineering
- Water/environmental engineering
- Construction management
- Infrastructure engineering
- Management.
During your studies, you’ll have the chance to visit a bridge site on a field trip, allowing you to experience how your knowledge can be applied outside of the classroom.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
A minimum of 60 per cent in a UK honours degree in civil engineering accredited to CEng, with a minimum of 60 per cent in Structures and Codified Design subjects. Alternatively, a minimum of 70 per cent in a UK honours degree in civil engineering accredited to IEng, plus approval from the relevant institution. We'll also accept a recognised equivalent international qualification. At least five years’ relevant industrial experience (preferably codified design) or a professional qualification (for example, CEng) will also be considered if you don’t meet these requirements.
