Biological Sciences (Zoology) MBiolSci with a Year in Industry

On the MBiolSci in Biological Sciences (Zoology) you will explore theoretical and practical aspects of animal biology and biodiversity including animal behaviour, development, ecology, evolution and animal physiology. You will gain a comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of the approaches to research in zoology and practical experience of the techniques that zoologists use to tackle some of the most important questions in neurobiology, behaviour, ecology and evolution through analysis of molecular processes. Alongside the fundamental theories of zoology you will learn to understand how whole animal sciences interact with the molecular processes of genetics and biochemistry to govern behaviour, evolution and the interactions of organisms with each other. You will also experience the fun and camaraderie of working and experimenting in the field, in the UK and abroad, whilst learning key subject-specific and employability skills.

You will also gain a broad understanding of fundamental biological processes, while developing analytical skills and gaining experience in handling complex information. By studying zoology alongside options in other biological sciences, you will be able to apply your knowledge across the boundaries of traditional disciplines and gain a valuable and powerful asset in scientific environments and in many other walks of life.

This flexible and broad-based four-year degree allows you to shape your course to focus your study on how whole organisms behave and interact and what the molecular mechanisms of biological sciences underpin zoology. The first three years are the same as the BSc in Biological Sciences (Zoology), including the option of a year spent abroad or working in industry. In your final year you will specialise further, upgrading your degree to an MBiolSci (Master of Biological Sciences) and experiencing a seamless transition to specialised higher level study with a focus on zoological research and transferable employability skills.
