Veterinary Microbiology MSc
Why choose this course
The study of veterinary microbiology helps us to protect against and treat diseases in animals, from pets to livestock.
Our MSc in Veterinary Microbiology is run in partnership with local, pioneering veterinary research institutes (Pirbright, the Animal, and Plant Health Agency and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate). It offers an in-depth understanding of veterinary infectious diseases and global issues such as antimicrobial resistance, and their associated impact on humankind.
What you will study
Our MSc in Veterinary Microbiology covers exciting topics such as molecular biology, immunology, and microbiology, offering specialist practical training in the diagnosis of important viral and bacterial diseases of global animal and human health importance. You will study complex mechanisms of host-microbe interactions that are involved in the pathogenesis of specific animal diseases and gain insight into the relevant diagnostic methods and interventions, such as vaccines.
You will enhance critical and analytical skills while gaining hands-on experience in the diagnosis of veterinary diseases. This will allow you to identify problems, formulate hypotheses, design experiments, acquire and interpret data, and draw conclusions. You’ll also benefit from our partner institutions, including APHA, VMD, the Pirbright Institute and Public Health England.
