Civil and Structural Engineering with a Foundation Year M.Eng or B.Eng

Course description
If you don't have the usual scientific or mathematical background for an engineering degree, a foundation year is for you. After successfully completing the foundation year, which has modules in mathematics, physics and chemistry, you can start the MEng degree.

This course is the same as the MEng Civil Engineering in years one and two. The second half of the course introduces structural engineering modules, including multi-story building design and advanced geotechnical design.

Structures are increasingly designed using computers, so you'll be given instructions on how to use state-of-the-art structural analysis software. You'll be provided with a thorough grounding in the underlying physical and mathematical principles on which the software is based.

You'll also work on an integrated design project to design an entire eco-town or urban regeneration site, taking the lead on the project's structural aspects. The project is demanding. It takes initiative, motivation and careful planning.

Your final year includes an individual project and advanced structural modules.
