European Master of Food Science, Technology and Business (Ghent et al)

The two-year European Master of Science in Food Science, Technology and Business (BiFTec) is jointly organised by three European partner institutions: KU Leuven, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (HSA) and Catholic University of Portugal (UCP). It fosters innovation and technology to help you cope with future needs and sustainability within our FOOD4S ("food force") paradigm: Sustainable Food Systems Science and Engineering.

What is the 'European Master of Food Science, Technology and Business' all about?

BiFTec adopts a transversal and multidisciplinary approach to a broad range of topics related to the 4S pillars Science (Food Science &Engineering Technology), Sustainability (Sustainable Food Product & Food Process Design), Safety (Food Safety & Quality), and Simulation (Computational Food Science & Technology).

More in-depth courses, a professional competence module and an MSc thesis project allow for specialisation in the domains of Innovative Technology, Energy & Food Chains, Risk & Safety, and Sustainable Food Production & Business. Upon successful graduation, you will receive a joint degree.

The BiFTec programme has a modular format of ten modules in year 1, with evaluation at the end of each module. You are required to take six compulsory courses and four optional courses – organised by the institutions with the most expertise in that particular field.

You will also complete a professional competence module and work on a scientific project – in one of the partner institutions or in an approved workplace – that will culminate in a master’s thesis.
