Course description
The four-year MBiolSci adds a year of advanced research training and upgrades your degree to Master of Biological Science. This option is excellent preparation for careers in research, consulting and government.

The course focuses on whole-organism biology. Specialist modules cover animal behaviour, evolutionary biology, ecology, genetics, climate change and molecular biology.

Other options include biology and ethics, biotechnology and food, reproduction, genetics and genomics. You can also take modules in biomedical science, molecular and microbiology, even philosophy.

We run optional field courses in the Peak District National Park, Anglesey, Ireland, Arctic Sweden, the Mediterranean and the tropical rainforest in Borneo. And there are opportunities for work experience, including the option of adding a year's work placement to your degree.

If you want to study biology, but don't meet the entry requirements to go straight into the first year, our Biosciences with a Foundation Year could be for you. After successfully completing the one-year programme, you'll progress onto the first year of your chosen degree.
