Economics B.A

Course description
The course gives you a solid grounding in modern economic theory and techniques of applied economic analysis. You'll develop the quantitative and analytical skills economists need to make informed judgments.

In the first year, you'll take modules in economic analysis, policy and mathematical and statistical methods for economics. Optional modules include Economic History of Britain and the Modern World, Introductory Finance for Economics and Classical and Contemporary Thinkers in Economics.

In the second and third years, you build on what you've learned and take optional modules in aspects of economics that interest you. Advanced Microeconomics and Macroeconomics help prepare you for work as a professional economist.

Degrees with employment experience
We offer you the chance to do a year-long work placement, starting after your second year. This is a great opportunity to get paid work experience with some of the UK's top employers who want to recruit the best students from Sheffield. Recent placements have been with Bank of England, Lloyds Bank, IBM, ASOS and Mercedes-Benz.
