Fashion Textile Design BA (Hons)

This is a specialist course, providing opportunities for students to develop in-depth textile design expertise for the fashion industry. Investigating and providing new creative directions for fashion forward, luxury and innovative design approaches for fashion material culture. We aim to produce versatile fashion specialists through the courses’ philosophy of exploring and combining a broad range of practical skills.

Allowing investigation of materials and technical approaches across print, stitch, embellishment and knit, as well as complimentary skills in CAD, design communication, and 3D product realisation. A strong emphasis is placed on nurturing research, conceptual, creative and technical skills, coupled with the development of essential fashion skills such as pattern cutting, construction and fashion illustration. We aim to encourage you to become conversant in a broad fashion context, whilst honing your specialist textile design skills.

The course encourages you to show a commitment to the practice of design that is forward thinking, innovative and original. The course believes on creating an environment of choice, allowing you to determine your own creative direction. You will have the option to choose or mix technical specialisms, in many differing contexts, allowing you to direct your studies as appropriate to your style, context, technical skills and market focus.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry criteria

Typical entry requirements 

A good portfolio and normally:

  • Art and Design Foundation or
  • 112 points from at least 2 A ‘levels and including grade C in Art and Design or
  • BTEC Extended Diploma DMM in an Art and Design related subject or
  • International Baccalaureate: 26+ Points including Art and Design

Plus five GCSEs grades 9-4 including English Language or Literature at grade 4 or above.

  • Pass Access with 30 Level 3 credits at Merit in Art and Design and GCSE English (Language or Literature) at grade 4 or above

We will normally require students to have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course.

  • We also accept the BTEC First Diploma plus two GCSEs including English Language or Literature at grade 4 or above

India

  • Minimum of 65% average in your four best subjects (excluding Hindi) in Standard 12. We may also check your standard 10 results in English and Maths.

2nd year - 3rd-year Undergraduate:

  • Entry to year 2 or 3 may be possible. You will need to supply detailed information including courses taken, grades achieved, syllabus, and a grading guide.

Sri Lanka

  • 55-65% in three A-levels, depending on the course you choose.

Interview and Portfolio

UK applicants with relevant qualifications will be invited to bring their portfolio of work to an open day and interview. Overseas applicants will be invited to send samples of their work.
