HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS B.A (Hons)

History and International Relations covers key historical understandings and patterns in order to explain the social and political organization of the past, today and tomorrow. You will learn the skills of a historian as you deepen your understanding of past eras, continents, and cultures from political, social and religious perspectives. You will also learn the skills of political analysis as you examine and explain the social, political, economic structures that have shaped the global arena and continue to impact on our daily lives.

You will develop an understanding of the different approaches to both disciplines and the range of theories and methods used. The programme encompasses a broad range of topics, from societies in the very distant past to contemporary migration, conflict, gender, security, and the EU, in order to understand how social and political organisation today comes from that of yesterday.

When you study International Relations, you're studying more than just current events - you're studying how history, structures, ideas, power, people and politics all come together to shape and direct the world that we live in. International Relations is everywhere around us, from what we see on the nightly news to the films we watch. It is an interdisciplinary subject that draws on an almost inexhaustable list of disciplines, such as history, politics, sociology, cultural studies, regional studies, anthropology, economics, business, philosophy and gender studies.

Keele is exciting and innovative place in which to study History. Our undergraduate history programmes are broad and innovative, ranging from the medieval past to recent developments in events and culture. We also have a lively community of postgraduate and postgraduate research students. In the REF 2014, History was amongst the top three performing subjects at Keele, with 82% of our research judged to be in the top two categories of 'World Leading' [3*] and 'Internationally Excellent' [4*].
