Medical Science (B MedSci) - (Hons)

Taking you from ‘bench to bedside’, the Medical Science BMedSci (Hons) degree is a research-led course, designed to equip you with a thorough knowledge of research, evidence-based medicine, and clinical skills.

Using scientific and clinical approaches, the course provides you with an understanding of the human body in health and disease. Areas of specialism include:

Job Opportunity Potential

Graduate opportunities exist in medical research, writing, education, commerce, and sales. This is an appropriate entry qualification for graduates who wish to apply for further study in graduate entry medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, or NHS medical care practitioner training.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry criteria

  • A minimum of 120 UCAS points from at least two A levels. One A level must be at grade C or above in either Biology, Chemistry or Human Biology, or
  • BTEC National Diploma Science - Distinction/ Distinction/ Merit, or
  • BTEC Extended Diploma Science - Distinction/ Distinction/ Merit

Plus, five GSCEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English

Alternative qualifications include:

  • Pass QAA Accredited AHE (Science) with a minimum of 21 Level 3 credits at Distinction and 24 Level 3 credits at Merit in Chemistry or Biology. English and Maths GCSE required at grade 4 (C) or above as separate qualifications

We will normally require students to have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course.

  • International Baccalaureate: 28+ with six higher-level points in Chemistry or Biology

  • Minimum of 65% average in your four best subjects (excluding Hindi) in Standard 12. We may also check your standard 10 results in English and Maths.
  • For Engineering courses, you will need a minimum of 60% in Maths.
