As well as exploring the traditional principles of journalism, you will learn how to become an effective, professionally qualified, multi-platform journalist, with video and photography integrated throughout the course. The skills acquired from this degree course, as well as the NCTJ qualifications, are transferable to other career paths, with many students also progressing into roles in PR and communications.

Job Opportunity Potential
Our Journalism graduates have gone on to work for some of the UK’s biggest media companies, including major newspaper groups, magazines, PR companies and the wider communications and digital media industries.
Previous students have secured roles such as trainee journalist at the Loughborough Echo, trainee reporter at the Berkshire Media Group, broadcast journalist at Global Radio, junior features writer at Caters News Agency and a position on the ITV News graduate scheme.
Students increasingly find employment in the digital economy, where the ability to communicate effectively on a variety of platforms is a significant advantage.
Graduates are also well positioned to continue their academic careers by embarking on postgraduate study, in either research or taught areas, which offers the opportunity for further specialisation, including the Investigative Journalism MA courses offered at DMU.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Entry criteria
- A typical offer is normally 104 UCAS points from at least two A-levels, or
- BTEC National Diploma/ Extended Diploma at DMM
Plus five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or equivalent.
Alternative qualifications include:
- Pass Access in the QAA accredited Access to HE course. English and Maths GCSE required as a separate qualification as equivalency is not accepted within the Access qualification.
We will normally require students to have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course.
- International Baccalaureate: 24+ points
Portfolio Required: No
Interview Required: Yes and NCTJ approved on-screen test. If you are unable to attend the interview and test, you will be offered a non-accredited journalism joint honors degree.
We welcome applications from mature students with non-standard qualifications and recognize all other equivalent and international qualifications.
India
- Minimum of 65% average in your four best subjects (excluding Hindi) in Standard 12. We may also check your standard 10 results in English and Maths.
- For Engineering courses, you will need a minimum of 60% in Maths.

Sri Lanka
- 55-65% in three A-levels, depending on the course you choose.
