Direct PhD Program in Bioengineering

Program Description:
Exponential advances in science, technology and medicine over the last ten years have demonstrated the power of integrated multidisciplinary approaches to solving today's enormous challenges in biology and medicine. This new
paradigm transcends traditional boundaries between classical disciplines such as biology, physics, engineering and computer science, and offers a unified approach to the study of biology and the practice of medicine.

The 5 year direct PhD in Bioengineering program offers a unique set of integratedcourses and laboratory experiences in this rapidly growing field. Research focuses on the fundamental understanding of cellular decision-making in health
and disease. Projects range from the mapping of transcriptional networks,innovative human-on-a-chip devices, to developmental biology and microenvironmental control of bacterial populations.
Admission Requirements:
• B.Sc., M.Sc. or M.D. degrees in associated fields with a GPA above 85 (2013
cutoff was 91).
• Minimal requirements include the following courses or their equivalent:
Intro, to Computer Science, From Cell to Organism, General Chemistry, Applied
Math 1. Applied Math 2. Physics Mechanics, Physics Electricity and Magnetism.
• Student are strongly encouraged to find a PhD advisor before submitting their
application to the program.
