Due to changing population demographics and changing patterns of morbidity and mortality, there is a move towards promoting health and preventing ill health. For this reason, applied research in health psychology is developing rapidly. This short course will explore how psychological theory contributes to our understanding of health and illness, more specifically how behaviour can be modified to improve health, giving a general background to health education and promotion.

This course should be of interest to postgraduates who wish to further their understanding of psychology applied to health education and health promotion. Also those who are interested in a better understanding of how to design and evaluate a health promotion campaign.
