Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - Health Visiting or School Nursing or Sexual Health Adviser, PGDip

This course prepares registered nurses and midwives to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional standards for specialist community public health nurses (Health Visiting or School Nursing or Sexual Health Adviser) and is suitable for those who wish to develop a career in public health nursing. The course content will cover the four principles of public health practice and students will be involved in: the search for health needs; the stimulation of awareness of health needs; the influence on policies affecting health; the facilitation of health enhancing activities. The course comprises 50 per cent theory and 50 per cent practice. Assessment methods vary and include: examinations, essays, presentations and business reports in addition to practice assessment by a named practice teacher.

The course will enable registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse on the third part of the Nursing and Midwifery register. The course has also been mapped to the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework to assist with career progression.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

55% in bachelor degree

70% in Year 12 English*
Or
70% average grade in Year 11 and Year 12 English provided Year 12 is not below 65%

Standard English language entry requirements – IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

GCSE or O-Level English Grade C - Grade C

A Level English Language - Grade C

TOEFL iBT including Special At Home Edition - 88 (with minimum grades of 21 in each component)

UCLan Test of English Language Level (TELL) - Merit (75%) with no component below pass (65%)

Pearson Test of EnglishAcademic - 61 with minimum of 55 in each component

An effective current registration on either part one or two of the NMC register
Normally the equivalent of at least one year's post-registration practice experience
The equivalent of 360 credits of which 120 must be at Level 3 (degree level) in a relevant Nursing Practice or Social Sciences related subject.
You are required to have a current DBS clearance which will be organised through your employing organisation.
Please note this programme is also offered at a BSc (Hons) level.
