PhD Applied Social Research

The PhD in Applied Social Research is a three year full-time programme (six years part-time) that examines important issues based on large-scale and complex social surveys using advanced statistical methods.

We have a strong connection with the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMI), an interdisciplinary research centre within the School of Social Sciences at The University of Manchester.

The Institute provides a focal point for the application of quantitative methods in interdisciplinary social science research, in order to generate a world class research environment.

The Institute builds on our existing strong reputation for quantitative social science and the development and application of advanced quantitative methods. A distinctive feature of the Institute is the application of advanced and innovative methods to address social, economic and political questions.
