MSc Restoration Ecology
Our world is over-developed. Today, the damage to many of our ecosystems is a recognised fact – something must be done. This masters is your chance to play your role.
Study with us and you’ll develop an expert understanding of restoration ecology, and attempts to bring damaged ecosystems back to a more natural state. Along the way, you’ll have the support of a teaching team with an excellent track record of high-impact research, who bring their unique mix of experience into the classroom.
With six core units, you’ll first build a strong foundation linking ecological theory to restoration programmes. You’ll also look at species recovery, including reintroduction and captive breeding, as well as mastering statistical techniques for handling data. There’s considerable flexibility on offer, too, with option units ranging from avian biology and organismal genetics, to geographical information systems.
Fieldwork is central to the course. You’ll gain vital practical experience in the UK and also on your field course to Poland or Tanzania or Ecuador. The dissertation also has a strong practical element allowing you to work within ongoing restoration projects in the UK and possibly overseas.
It’s a qualification created to make an environmental impact – ensuring you leave us ready to make a real difference in the world of restoration ecology.
