BA (Hons) Cultural History with Year Abroad
Explore historical periods and topics through the lens of art, film and literature.
This new degree program offers an inspiring opportunity to study cultural history from the Middle Ages through to the modern day – incorporating art, architecture, artifacts, material culture, literature, film and media.
Tailor your degree and choose from a diverse and wide-ranging offering of modules, from the history of human rights to gender in medieval Islam and the development of New York as a cosmopolitan city. Delve into Jane Austen’s Georgian England, or explore medieval London through its pubs, plague-pits and monuments. Study Japanese film or the Golden Age of Hollywood, or examine the history of video games, from Pac-Man to Pokémon.
You’ll also have access to the full range of cultural, social, political and intellectual history modules offered by the School of History, taught by our internationally-renowned staff.
You can take this degree with a year abroad, immersing yourself in a different culture and society.

PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after the course completing (Bachelors level or above).
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- A-Level Grades ABB at A-Level. This must include A-Level History. Excludes General Studies and Critical Thinking.
- IB International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 32 points overall, including 6,6,5 from three Higher Level subjects. This must include History at Higher Level.
- GCSE Minimum five GCSE passes including English at grade C or 4.
- EPQ Alternative offers may be made to applicants taking the Extended Project Qualification.
- Contextualised admissions We consider every application on its individual merits and will take into consideration your individual educational experiences and context. More information on how academic schools and programmes use this information as part of the admissions process
FOR INDIA
- Students who have successfully completed Standard XII examinations will be considered for entry onto our undergraduate degrees across the full disciplinary spectrum.
- As a minimum requirement, students who have taken Central Board/State Board examinations and achieved in the range of 75% to 85% will be considered for first year entry.
Students who have achieved in the range of 60% to 80% (Central board/State Boards) may be considered for entry onto the Foundation Programme.
