Bachelor of Education (Teaching)

The programme is shaped by a commitment to fairness and social justice. It is underpinned by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to ensure equitable outcomes in learning. You will learn alongside a diverse range of students and be taught basic proficiency in te Reo M?ori.

You will be taught by academics who are experts in their fields of Education and passionate about supporting the next generation of teachers. Courses are taught through a range of methods including face-to-face lectures, tutorials and workshops, as well as online learning.

Over the three years, you’ll spend full-time block practical placements (practicums) in a range of schools, Kura or early childhood centres, with the guidance of a dedicated teacher within the school or centre, supported by your university supervisors. This will help you to become a part of a community, establish connections to set you up in your career and gain vital skills to prepare you for the transition into teaching.

The Epsom Campus is the main campus for the Faculty of Education and Social Work and is home to approximately 3500 students.

Tai Tokerau Campus

The Tai Tokerau Campus Te Papa Ako o Tai Tokerau is located at 13 Alexander Street, Whang?rei.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

You need to have one of the following:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24.
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level. You must have completed a minimum of three A-Level subjects. 
  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). 

India

You need to have one of the following:

  • 12 years of schooling and an overall average of 75 percent in the All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSC), Indian School Certificate (ISC), Karnataka, Maharashtra, and West Bengal State Board Examinations with a minimum of 70 percent in English.
  • 12 years of schooling and an overall average of 80 percent in all other Higher Secondary State Board Examinations with a minimum of 75 percent in English.

Bangladesh

You need to have the following:

  • Entry from secondary school qualifications is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Sri Lanka

You need to have the following:

  • Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education. You must have completed a minimum of three A-Level subjects, with at least a ‘C’ grade or higher. General Studies or similar general paper cannot be included.

GCE ‘A’ Level requirements apply to ‘A’ Level qualifications examined by bodies such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, CCEA, Pearson Education Limited, and CIE taken outside of New Zealand.
