This course is the essential minimum requirement to work as an Enrolled Nurse in Australia and will give you the opportunity to develop advanced skills in performing clinical assessments, contributing to the care of people with complex needs, administering and monitoring medications and IV therapy, effectively communicating with patients and colleagues, plus a host of other duties. You’ll also learn to implement and monitor care for people with mental health conditions, and acute and chronic health problems, as well as how to care for older people and patients with complex needs.

On successful completion of the theoretical and practical simulation training components in each stage of the course, you will have the opportunity to undertake a clinical placement in a health care facility or hospital where you will get to use your new skills in the real world. You will be required to work shifts including morning or evening shifts, Monday to Friday, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments in order to complete your shifts.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

This course has the following essential entry requirements:

All applicants will need to complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) assessment and achieve competency of at least Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both language and numeracy.

Following this applicants will need to provide evidence of:

  • National Police Check
  • Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Evidence of English Language Proficiency: This is evidenced by documentation that shows you have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, including at least two years between years 7 and 12. Examples of accepted pieces of documentation include a TCE, High School Certificate, Exit letter or reference from your school, School report from at least equivalent of year 8. In the case where an applicant cannot obtain one of these pieces of evidence they may need to request official documentation from DoE legal team. This is a lengthy and time consuming process so is really a last resort. Applicants can go to the Department of Education website for further information.

All pieces of submitted evidence must be certified by a Commissioner of Declaration.
