Computer Science with Placement Year MSc
This course offers specialist options across cyber security, digital forensics, business intelligence, software engineering and emerging technologies. You will explore advanced areas such as applied machine learning, data science and wireless technologies while developing strong practical skills through real?world case studies and system design work.
In your first year, you will build core expertise in advanced programming, enterprise software development, software quality management and cloud computing, supported by optional modules that allow you to tailor your studies. You will also complete a major MSc project demonstrating your technical and research abilities.

Graduates from this Computer Science course are equipped for employment in industry, commerce or research with proficiency in the key theoretical and practical areas in computer science, including their application to modern software systems development.
Do you provide employability services?As well as support from the Faculty of Engineering and Science Placements Team, the University partners with an organisation that specialises in guiding students to secure an industrial practice placement. However, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to secure an appropriate placement. This could be with a local or international employer in a relevant industrial sector.
- If a placement is not secured, it will still be possible to graduate with an MSc in Computer Science without Placement Year.
PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
- 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- An undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:2, or above, in Computing, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Information Systems or Multimedia or a relevant numerate subject that includes software development experience.
Applicants without a degree that have substantial commercial/industrial experience including software development using modern programming languages and design may be considered.
