Macquarie University (MQU)

Sydney , New South Wales ,Australia

Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Psychology

Macquarie has always considered our students to be co-creators in their learning. One of the most exciting developments in our new curriculum is around your ability to study two degrees at once.

In this double degree, you will be able to combine:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration: This degree will develop your skills in business, ethics, management, finance, economics, accounting, human resources, marketing and strategy – all key competencies you’ll need to succeed in today’s dynamic global business environment.
  • Bachelor of Psychology: This degree will provide you with a scientific understanding of the psychological processes that underlie behaviour. You’ll get exposure to a wide range of fundamental psychological concepts, as well as to more specialised areas such as child psychology, neuropsychology, social and personality psychology, health psychology, organisational psychology, cognition and perception, and psychopathology. It offers an excellent foundation if wish to pursue a career in psychology-related areas, or it can be undertaken as a pathway to postgraduate study in psychology, which will enable you to become a qualified psychologist.

KEY FEATURES

  • Double degrees fast-track your study – you usually complete double degrees one or even two years faster than you would undertaking both degrees on their own. This not only saves you time but money as well.
  • This highly respected course prepares you for entry into the psychology profession or higher degree research.
  • With its focus on job readiness, this degree will provide you with opportunities to apply theory to real-world situations, equipping you with the skills you’ll need to operate effectively in business environments.
  • You’ll learn how to apply leadership and management concepts to real workplace situations, explore how marketing contributes to overall business operations, discover how Australian contract law is used to establish and manage business partnerships, develop and critique sustainable business practices in real-world environments, and learn how team diversity can contribute to a high-performance working environment.
  • In your third year, you'll have the opportunity to gain relevant workplace experience in a professional or community setting that's relevant to psychology.
  • You're guaranteed a place in the honours program if you achieve the criteria for admission into the honours year.

Job Opportunity Potential

Studying hard and getting great marks doesn’t guarantee you a job. Most employers expect applicants to be skilled and experienced in the workplace. Working while you study is an excellent way to build your employability skills and gain life experience.

Why does it?
Employers appreciate any full-time, casual, or part-time experience like working in hospitality or retail, on a reception desk, or even in construction.  They value this kind of experience because it shows that you can be responsible and professional. Working while you study builds professional skills that are essential for professional roles:

  • Time management
  • Teamwork
  • Customer service
  • Attention to detail
  • Working independently
  • Showing initiative
  • Communication (verbal and written)

Working on and off-campus
CareerHub is Macquarie’s jobs portal, connecting you with external organizations that offer part-time, casual, full-time employment opportunities as well as internships, cadetships, and volunteer experience.

Finding an on-campus job is often ideal as it centralizes both study and work, but opportunities on-campus are limited. Opportunities can be found here:

  • Campus Life manages the university's Sport and Aquatic Centre, Food and Shopping, Children's Services, Event Planning, and more.
  • For other administrative, professional, and academic-related opportunities within departments and faculties, visit the university's employment page.
