Bachelor of Biomedicine - Integrated Dental Sciences

The Integrated Dental Sciences extended major encompasses a wide range of disciplines within the health and medical sciences. It will provide students with the background knowledge across all the biomedical scientific disciplines including, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, haematology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and public health. These disciplines will be integrated within level 3 units, where science, clinical and professional content will be presented longitudinally and built around the core clinical conditions and presentations. Communication and research skills for the health professional will be presented throughout the major.

The major will include studies on aspects of Australian society and culture, including Aboriginal health and migrant and refugee health. Students will also commence pre-clinical training to be a dentist.

Job Opportunity Potential

This extended major will lead to the Doctor of Dental medicine degree. Graduates of the DMD degree will be eligible for registration as a Dentist with the Dental Board of Australia. They can then work as a dentist in government or hospital clinics, private dental practices, Defence Force dental clinics, or university-based dental clinics.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have - 

(a) achieved an ATAR of at least 75, or equivalent as recognised by UWA; or
(b) an assured pathway offer; or
(c) achieved a score of at least 100 in UWA's Experienced-based Entry assessment; or
(d) a place in a relevant UWA access program
