So, you want to work in advertising … as an art director, copywriter or account manager. Where can you learn what you need to know to get into the game?
At Humber, we offer one-year Ontario Graduate Certificate programs in Advertising Copywriting, Advertising - Account Management, and Advertising - Art Direction. Here you can learn the necessary skills in a new, innovative format that replicates the business you are about to enter.
Students from these three advertising disciplines take classes and work together in teams to learn every aspect of the industry. Your networking begins day one.

The Advertising Copywriting program gives you the specialized skills to develop creative solutions to real business problems. Over two intense semesters, you will develop a variety of strategic, conceptual and practical skills. You’ll learn how to write powerful, effective, engaging copy for all media. As well, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of advertising art direction, marketing, branding and strategic development. This unique combination of skills will enable you to build a comprehensive portfolio of creative work that reflects the industry standards required for field experience and entry-level copywriting positions.

Working While Studying
Part-time employment opportunities are available to international students for working both on and off campus. You can work up to 24 hours per week on campus, or up to 20 hours per week off campus, during regular school sessions and work full time during scheduled breaks, such as the winter and summer holidays or reading week.
Working on campus will help you gain valuable work experience, learn about services at Humber and earn extra money. Most positions are relatively flexible to your study schedule.
Working off campus is a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience with a Canadian company and work environment. You must have a valid study permit that states you are eligible to work off campus.

If your program was less than 8 months
- You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.
If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.
If your program was 2 years or more
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
If you completed more than 1 program
- You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.
Each of the programs you completed -
- must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- A bachelor’s degree, advanced diploma or diploma
- Letter of Introduction
- Advertisement Submissions
- International Credit Evaluation
- Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.
