DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICE WORKER DIPLOMA
As a developmental service worker, you work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities and those who deal with mental illness to promote their health and wellbeing. You interview, assess, assist, and counsel clients and their families, facilitate life skills, encourage inclusive environments, and provide personal care. Anderson’s Developmental Service Worker program meets all Provincial Standardization guidelines and outcomes.
Upon graduation you will be able to pursue work in a number of areas including (but not limited to): family support, within community or residential agencies, community organizations, private sector opportunities, transitional services or as an educational assistant or program supervisor.

Job Opportunity Potential
Eligibility for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP):
Graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Desire to stay in Canada temporarily for work.
Important Note:
Graduating from a DLI doesn't automatically qualify you for a PGWP.
Validity of PGWP:
Depends on the length of the study program or the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.
Duration of PGWP Based on Study Program Length:
Less than 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials): Not eligible for PGWP.
At least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials), but less than 2 years: PGWP may be granted for the same length as the study program (e.g., a 9-month program results in a 9-month PGWP).
2 years or more: PGWP may be valid for 3 years.
Completion of Multiple Programs:
PGWP may combine the lengths of each program if:
Each program is PGWP eligible.
Each program is at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length.
Important Restriction:
You cannot obtain a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements for enrollment:
High school diploma/GED, or
19 years of age or older at time of program start
Plus, a minimum score of 18 on the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (measuring cognitive ability, math, English, and reasoning)
Applicants with English as an additional language (ESL/EAL) must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following measures:
Minimum 50% in English 12 or 67% in Communications 12
Minimum 50% in post-secondary level English or Communications coursework
Successful completion of a standardized language proficiency test at or above ONE of the following standards:
• Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6
• IELTS 5.5 with no band lower than 5
• TOEFL iBT score of 46
• Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) score of 162
• Pearson Test of English (PTE-A) score of 45.4
• Versant English Placement Test (VEPT) score of 46
