WHAT TO EXPECT
The program is 48 weeks. It is a joint initiative between the Police Learning System Advisory Committee and the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to establish minimum entrance standards for police services in Ontario. The Law, Security and Police Foundations program is designed to prepare you for your Police Academy application, or for work in the areas of Customs and Immigration, Security, Private Investigation, Court or Fraud Departments.

If your career goal is to become a member of the police force, you will be more than ready for the Constable Selection Process with the training and education you receive at Anderson College.

You will gain combined practical and theoretical knowledge, empowering you to build confidence within various areas of law enforcement work, ensuring you’re ready to perform the extra requirements necessary for each job application. The program covers firearms and self-defence training, current laws, investigative techniques, criminal proceedings, conflict resolution techniques, and community policing principles. You also receive the support required to prepare for the standardized police examination.

Our daily regimen, disciplined training and practical courses in Provincial Statutes, Diversity, Conflict Management, Criminal Code and more will also open many doors for you in the security field.

Job Opportunity Potential

Eligibility for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP):
Graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Desire to stay in Canada temporarily for work.

Important Note:
Graduating from a DLI doesn't automatically qualify you for a PGWP.

Validity of PGWP:
Depends on the length of the study program or the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.

Duration of PGWP Based on Study Program Length:
Less than 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials): Not eligible for PGWP.
At least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials), but less than 2 years: PGWP may be granted for the same length as the study program (e.g., a 9-month program results in a 9-month PGWP).
2 years or more: PGWP may be valid for 3 years.

Completion of Multiple Programs:
PGWP may combine the lengths of each program if:
Each program is PGWP eligible.
Each program is at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length.

Important Restriction:
You cannot obtain a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements for enrollment:

High school diploma/GED, or
19 years of age or older at time of program start
Plus, a minimum score of 18 on the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (measuring cognitive ability, math, English, and reasoning)
Applicants with English as an additional language (ESL/EAL) must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following measures:

Minimum 50% in English 12 or 67% in Communications 12
Minimum 50% in post-secondary level English or Communications coursework
Successful completion of a standardized language proficiency test at or above ONE of the following standards:
• Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6
• IELTS 5.5 with no band lower than 5
• TOEFL iBT score of 46
• Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) score of 162
• Pearson Test of English (PTE-A) score of 45.4
• Versant English Placement Test (VEPT) score of 46
