Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT)

Athlone , Westmeath ,Ireland

Master of Arts Accounting

TUS Athlone is delighted to present our redesigned and updated MA in Accounting for September 2023. This course is a challenging, but rewarding one-year taught programme, running from September to August, with a new and updated syllabus.

The programme still maintains the generous exemptions from Chartered Accountants Ireland, such as the CAP 2 series of examinations, and from CPA Ireland, who offer graduates exemptions from 11 out of the 15 examination papers through their FastTrack programme. In addition, while maintaining the focus on preparing graduates for the accounting profession, the updated programme now incorporates a 30-credit Accounting Research Project. This module will encapsulate all the learnings from the taught component and offer students the opportunity to engage with the research literature to ensure the development of both practical and theoretical skills in the discipline.

If you have a degree in accounting or a general business with an accounting specialisation and would like to pursue a career in accounting, then this programme has been designed with you in mind.

International Students: We are delighted to welcome international students to our MA in Accounting. Please direct all such queries to international@ait.ie

Scholarships of €1,000 to maximum of €3,000 may be awarded based on academic achievement, personal statement outlining exceptional achievements, student ambassador programme, alumni scholarship and sibling scholarship to Non-EU students who apply through International Office or Country Advisors for TUS campuses.

International TUS alumni who wish to apply for a taught master’s may qualify for €3,000 reduced fee scholarship. More information is available from the International Office.

What will I experience?

On the programme, students will share experiences and knowledge to maximise learning. TUS Athlone has an outstanding record of staff/student engagement which creates a brilliant learning environment. MA in Accounting students have their own dedicated room that can be used for learning, teamwork, sharing and any other activities related to the programme.

The programme is intensive with a strong emphasis on self-directed learning and developing an awareness of the broader discipline of accounting.

Modules concentrate on the core accounting modules: management accounting, financial reporting, auditing, taxation and financial management. Students also undertake case studies which involve real-life scenarios incorporating different aspects of accounting, in addition to a 30 credit accounting research project.
