Bachelor of Arts / Social Sciences (Honours)
The undergraduate programme, leading to the Bachelor of Arts, or the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours), is very flexible and students are encouraged to take any of the modules offered in Communications and New Media (CNM) as well as modules from other departments in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the School of Computing and the School of Business.
The core of the CNM Programme is new media studies, which focus on the societal impact of new technologies on our social, cultural, political and economic landscape.
The Programme integrates media studies, mass communications, computational communication, communication management, interactive media design and cultural studies. The Programme cuts across the interdisciplinary intersections of social sciences, humanities, arts and computing, and prepares students as future hybrid media professionals through mastery in critical, creative, qualitative, quantitative and computational research. Our horizontal training will ground students in foundational, transferable and job-specific skills.
Students from Cohort 2020 and before may choose to complete the 3-year Bachelor of Arts programme, or the 4-year Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) programme. Students admitted from 2021 onwards will be automatically admitted to the 4-year Honours programme.
