Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology

The Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology provides advanced academic study in the discipline of clinical exercise physiology. The postgraduate course delivers a sequence of units in the context of clinical assessment and exercise as a preventative, prescriptive and rehabilitative process for acute, sub-acute and chronic injuries as well as non-communicable diseases and concomitant multimorbidities. This specialisation will provide professional training, skills, competencies and clinical experience needed for accreditation by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

The Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology will develop knowledge and skills in:

  • anatomy
  • physiology
  • biomechanics
  • motor control and learning
  • psychology.

As an exercise physiologist, you will understand what’s involved in:

  • exercise testing and prescription
  • movement analysis
  • sport performance
  • mental well-being.

This specialisation will provide professional training, skills, competencies and clinical practicum hours needed for accreditation by the Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must meet the following entry criteria:

have completed an undergraduate degree that is accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) at Exercise Science level, with one of the following:

  • a grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.6 on the ACU 7 point scale;
    or
  • evidence of Substantial relevant industry experience for at least one year post Bachelor graduation;
    or
  • have completed ACU's Graduate Certificate in Exercise Rehabilitation for Sports Injuries;
    or

have met the requirements of ESSA Graduate assessment, for postgraduate study, and have completed a degree or higher in exercise science or related field with one of the following;

  • a grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.6 on the ACU 7 point scale;
    or
  • evidence of substantial relevant industry experience for at least one year post-Bachelor graduation;
    or
  • have completed ACU's Graduate Certificate in Exercise Rehabilitation of Sports Injuries

OR

  • have completed ACU's Graduate Certificate in Clinical Exercise Rehabilitation
    AND
  • submit a curriculum vitae outlining relevant industry experience for this couse of study
    AND
  • submit professional referee/s information relevant to industy experience

Minimum English Language Requirement

  • Applicants must also have an overall academic IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.5 in every band) or equivalent.

Other prerequisites to undertaking this course

Students are required to undertake a criminal record check prior to the commencement of professional practice experience.

Victorian students are also required to undertake a Working with Children check(Bluecard mandatory).
