Foundation Program pathways - EXTENDED
The Extended Foundation Program is designed for students who need to improve their academic English and mathematics skills prior to undertaking the Standard Foundation Program. This program offers additional support and services to help students maximise their success at foundation and university studies.
- Extended students benefit from an initial study period of 7 weeks intensive studies in both Academic English and Mathematics.
- The program is especially beneficial for younger students, and students who need to increase their English language competency.
- Guaranteed entry into most UQ undergraduate programs provided assessment standards are met. (Guaranteed entry does not apply to quota programs.)
Main stream: Academic English (AE) and General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods. Humanities stream: Academic English (AE) and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Post-study Work Rights (Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa: The current eligibility requirements stipulate that students “cannot count any studies outside Australia towards the Australian study requirement. The only courses you can count towards the Australian study requirement are those that are completed in Australia.” Therefore, if you are enrolled in a 4-semester postgraduate degree at UQ and wish to study overseas for one semester, you will not meet the eligibility requirements for a Post-Study Work Rights visa. Further information on eligibility requirements for the Temporary Graduate (Subclass 485) visa is available on the Department’s website.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Eleven full years of schooling (entry from Year 11 or equivalent requires superior grades). Depending on your preferred undergraduate program, a minimum grade in Mathematics may also apply. Forecast results are accepted where appropriate and consideration is given to the actual subjects studied. We will only accept an application if the results indicate the student will have a good chance of passing the program.
