Graduate Certificate in Speech and Language Sciences

Students enrolled in the Master of Speech Pathology (C04386) can apply to transfer into this exit-only course after completing 24 credit points of specified study and gain a graduate certificate qualification.

This course comprises a total of 24 credit points.

Course intended learning outcomes

1.1 Recognise and explain the field of speech pathology and the role of speech pathologists in working with children and adults in Australia.
1.2 Apply the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health, the Social Determinants of Health, and Models of Disability to clinical scenarios.
2.1 Explain the importance of life-long learning to the field of speech pathology and use library resources to seek and find literature relating to the field of speech pathology.
3.1 Identify important aspects and principles of collaboration between health professionals through observation of speech pathologists engaging in multidisciplinary and inter-professional teams.
3.2 Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication in simulated clinical scenarios involving children's speech and language.
4.1 Demonstrate respect and value for diverse ways of knowing, being, and doing; in particular recognising the diversity of Indigenous Australians and their health and wellbeing.
