Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry for applicants with recent secondary education (previous three years) will be based on a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 80 or equivalent in a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education, with pre-requisite units 3 and 4; a study score of at least 25 in English EAL (English as an additional language) or 20 in English other than EAL.
Entry for applicants with previous Tertiary, VET, life, or work experience will be based on achieving an equivalent standard of achievement of an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 80 in:
- a Certificate IV in a related discipline OR
- a Diploma in any discipline or 50% completion of a Diploma in a related discipline OR
- successful completion of relevant study at an accredited higher education institution equivalent to at least two Deakin University units OR
- other evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent including relevant work or life experience
NOTE: Following successful completion of the first 3 levels of the course, students with a WAM (Weighted Average Mark) above 65 may progress to the honors level. A WAM of less than 65 results in an alternative exit from A401 with award A300 Bachelor of Arts.
A committee of academics will determine final admission to the Honours (4th Year) on the basis of a student's application, which includes their academic record as well as a research proposal. The committee will determine what constitutes 'other evidence of academic capability'.
