Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies

Would you like to become a translator or interpreter? The Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies will develop your skills in translation and interpreting in English and another language, with an understanding of both practice and theory.

Not only is our course endorsed at the (Certified Translator, Certified Advanced Translator, Certified Interpreter, Certified Specialist Interpreter (Legal), Certified Specialist Interpreter (Health), and Certified Conference Interpreter levels by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI); Monash is the only university in Australia to be a member of the Conference Internationale d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interpreters (CIUTI), the world's oldest and most prestigious international association of tertiary institutions offering degrees in translation and interpreting.

Qualifications

Depending upon your prior qualifications and experience you may be eligible for entry credit which reduces the duration.

Clayton

Entry Level 1: Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time (96 points to complete)

An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline including advanced bilingual proficiency* with at least credit (60%) average, or equivalent qualification or experience approved by the faculty.

OR

An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) in any discipline including advanced bilingual proficiency with at least credit (60%) average in both qualifications, or equivalent qualification or experience approved by the faculty.

Entry Level 2: Duration: 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time.

An Australian undergraduate honors degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline including advanced bilingual proficiency with at least credit (60%) average, or equivalent qualification or experience approved by the faculty.

Suzhou

An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in English translation or English interpretation.

For SEU students Monash University has deemed that the following National Master Unified Entrance Examination scores substitute for the required WAM score of an undergraduate degree:
