Master of Film and Television

The Masters of Film and Television provides the opportunity to become a media professional by developing your production skills within emerging media forms and opportunities.

This two-year program offers a variety of entry points depending on your previous qualifications and experience.

From the first year, you will be developing your capacity to undertake a range of media production and work towards completing a major folio project. This includes the development of the significant soft skills required for success in media industries such as teamwork and collaboration, problem-solving, and a high level of personal organization. Students will also gain knowledge and experience in how to present their folio and achievements, toward gaining employment.

Minimum course entry requirements

Admission to study postgraduate coursework at Deakin is based on recognition of your professional experience and previous qualifications.

1-year full time (2 years part-time) – 8 credit points

Admission is based on:

  • Bachelor Honours (AQF8) degree in a related discipline OR
  • Bachelor degree in a related discipline, plus two years of relevant work experience OR
  • Graduate Certificate in a related discipline, plus two years of relevant work experience OR
  • Graduate Diploma in a related discipline OR
  • Evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent

1.5 years full time (3 years part-time) – 12 credit points

Admission is based on:

  • Bachelor degree in a related discipline OR
  • Bachelor degree in any discipline, plus two years of relevant work experience OR
  • Evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent

2 years full time (4 years part-time) – 16 credit points

Admissions are based on: 

  • Bachelor degree or other qualification at a higher AQF level in any discipline OR
  • Evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent

Mandatory student checks

Any unit which contains work-integrated learning, a community placement, or interaction with the community may require a police check, Working with Children Check, or another check.
