Fine Arts BFA - General Studio Concentration
Students in the general BFA concentration are taught a variety of technical, conceptual and creative problem-solving skills, preparing them for life-long careers in the professional world of art and design. A BFA degree is a more studio-oriented degree than a BA, with a greater focus on fine art concentrations supplemented with a reduced, more defined program of general studies. Students in the BFA also take a 2-semester capstone course, resulting in a senior thesis exhibition. Because this option includes the development of a cohesive body of work, the BFA is considered particularly relevant for students who wish to continue on to an MFA program.
Those who enter the BFA in Studio Art at UB come from diverse backgrounds, but all share a passion for art. The first two years of study primarily focus on expanding a student's knowledge of art history and foundation fundamentals. These introductory courses provide the bedrock for all subsequent 300- and 400-level courses. Your customized course of study at UB will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary for developing creative practices that are relevant to your individual goals, connecting you to the city of Buffalo and to the larger world. Many of our undergraduate majors go on to graduate school at other prestigious universities, building careers as leading artists, designers, artistic directors, researchers, scholars, and educators in their disciplines. Because this option includes the development of a cohesive body of work, the BFA is considered particularly relevant for students who wish to continue on to an MFA program
