Music - General Music (Bachelor of Arts)

Intended for students seeking a traditional liberal arts degree with a major in music, the general music concentration requires a non-music minor area as well as a foreign language. Students are immersed in music within a broad context. The curriculum is complemented with electives which allow the student to choose an area he/she desires to pursue in greater depth. Some students choose additional electives from music courses while others venture outside the department. This curriculum provides the solid structure of a comprehensive major field, a broad background in the liberal arts, and allows freedom to pursue individual student interests as well. Consequently, the degree allows the student to prepare for a specific career interest or for further study at the graduate level.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Minimum high school GPA and graduation with a valid and acceptable diploma type - Prior to graduation, an official high school transcript is required indicating the GPA of work completed through at least the junior year of high school. To be offered provisional admission before high school graduation, applicants should have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale (75/100). Upon graduation, an official high school transcript showing the date of graduation and type of diploma received is required. (JSU Policy No. III:19 High School Diploma Validation Policy)
