Applied Science B.S.A.S., with Public Health Concentration
Workforce projections for the 21st Century indicate there will be an ongoing need for people with specific skills and abilities to fill Florida’s growing number of specialized, scientific, industrial and technological positions. Florida’s two-year colleges offer many exceptional programs that meet these demands through their Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees. Although these applied and technical degrees provide excellent preparation for students seeking jobs that require specific knowledge, skills and abilities, they have not generally transferred very efficiently into four-year bachelor’s degree programs. The Bachelor of Science in Applied Science has been developed by USF under certain provisions of Florida legislation to remove constraints from the transfer process, recognize some past coursework as transferable credit to the university, and afford exciting new opportunities for those with an A.S. degree from a Florida public state or community college to pursue and acquire a distinctive bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida.
Students may not pursue the Bachelor of Sciences in Applied Science (B.S.A.S.) as a second major, co-degree (concurrent degree), dual degree, or second or post-baccalaureate degree. Students that have earned a Bachelor degree from USF or other institutions who wish to pursue further education are encouraged to pursue admission into a graduate degree program of study or contact the college associated with the bachelor degree program of their choice.

Job Opportunity Potential
As Florida's only metropolitan Preeminent University, we are shaping the future for a better tomorrow. We are uniquely situated to make a difference every day. We see it in the hopes and dreams of every student success story. We feel the pride in every discovery that helps people lead healthier lives. We grow with every community advancement where our families work and play.
Generally, F-1 students are only allowed to work on campus for 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters (40 hours during breaks and annual vacation). For a job to be considered to be “on campus” you must receive a USF generated paycheck or the on-campus location must offer essential services to students, such as the Yuengling Center or the USF Follett Bookstore.
PSW Opportunity
- 12 to 36 months (OPT duration depends on the major studied).
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Any student applying for admission to USF is considered international if he or she:
Is not a citizen of the United States
Is not a permanent resident alien, asylee or refugee
Is pending permanent resident alien status
If offered admission, international applicants will need to submit additional documents.
Once you have determined whether you are an international student, decide whether you are freshman or transfer status. This is important to do before you get started on your application.
Freshman Status
If you have not graduated from secondary school or completed your secondary school examinations, the State of Florida considers you a freshman, regardless of the amount of college credit you may have earned through dual enrollment, AP or IB coursework, or external examinations while in secondary school.
Thus, even though you may have sophomore or junior standing once you enroll and your credits are transferred, USF will review your application for admission as a freshman and consider you for all freshman admission scholarships. You also are considered a freshman if you have completed your secondary school studies and have attempted fewer than 12 college credits.
If you fall into this category, please follow the freshman requirements and deadlines when submitting your application.
