MASTER OF ARTS IN ECONOMICS
The Master of Arts in Economics at John Jay is a new 36-credit graduate program that provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous education in applied, pluralist economics. It is one of a handful of graduate programs in the country that focuses primarily on issues of economic justice such as economic democracy, diversity, inequality, sustainability, and community development. Students at John Jay will study the history of economics and economic thought, the economics of gender, environmental sustainability, local and international economic development, and global inequalities of income and wealth while acquiring essential technical skills such as writing and data analysis valued by practitioners in the field.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
In addition to the admission criteria that is listed for each graduate program, applicants who were educated outside of the United States must submit the following documents:
An official transcript in the original language from each postsecondary school/university attended in a sealed envelope, and
An international credential evaluation report that includes a course-by-course analysis indicating the type of degree received, the U.S. equivalency of the degree, the graduation date, and a cumulative grade point average from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
English Proficiency Test Scores
The Duolingo English Test is an online English proficiency test that can be taken online, on-demand, in under an hour. John Jay College will accept a score of 105 or above. The test is taken via a computer with a camera and includes a proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample which are shared with John Jay College when you send your results.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report is required. John Jay College’s TOEFL code number is 2115-99. The required minimum TOEFL scores are 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test and 79-80 for the Internet-based test. Students may also take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic), or EIKEN . A score of 7.0 is required on the IELTS, 53 on the Pearson, or Grade 1 on the EIKEN.
