Counseling, ED.S.
The Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Counseling program is designed to provide knowledge and theory beyond the master's degree level and below the doctorate degree. The Ed.S. in Counseling provides those with a master’s degree the additional coursework needed for a Nebraska Department of Education endorsement (for example, School Counselor or School Psychologist) or the Nebraska Mental Health Practitioner License (LMHP) requirements.
For example, a graduate with the community/clinical mental health counseling degree may want to become a school counselor or a school counselor may want to become licensed as a mental health practitioner. Through this program, professionals can advance their careers by tailoring the Ed.S. to transition to a related, yet different, professional field. See an example Ed.S. Program of Study for a graduate with a Clinical Mental Health Counseling MSE degree (60 hours) seeking coursework to become endorsed as a School Counselor in Nebraska.
