Exercise Science Comprehensive, B.S.
Exercise Science is a truly versatile degree that can provide a strong academic background for a wide variety of jobs, fitness-related careers, certifications, and great preparation for entry into a graduate or professional healthcare degree program. It’s definitely one of the most interesting, diverse, fun and useful undergraduate majors out there – however, graduation is usually just the beginning.
The Exercise Science Comprehensive major is designed for University of Nebraska Kearney students who want to be fitness, nutrition and wellness professionals (fitness instructors, strength and conditioning coaches, nutrition educators, corporate wellness coordinators), as well as rehabilitation professionals (athletic trainer, chiropractor, cardiac rehab, exercise physiologist, physical or occupational therapist) or medical professionals (nurse, medical assistant, physician assistant).
Courses include anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, health promotion, nutrition, fitness evaluation, strength program design and research design. Courses are held in the state-of-the-art Physical Activity and Wellness Laboratory that is over 7,000 square feet of academic, research and faculty space including a demonstration kitchen and private exercise room. Students may choose to apply to be part of the undergraduate research fellows program and work with one of five exercise science faculty to experience research in exercise science.
