Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice
We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice, providing students the opportunity to discover, arrange, and make sense of facts about crime systematically. Students will gain an empirical understanding of the factors that influence individuals’ decision-making practices within various criminal justice institutions, including programs designed to prevent crime, meet the needs of victims, and rehabilitate criminals. These institutions and programs include the police, courts, probation and parole systems, correctional institutions, community-based programs, and social/human service agencies.
Also, the degree has a strong emphasis on the behavioral and societal aspects of criminal behavior. Attention is also given to how we count, measure, and explain crime rates, why and how crime rates differ across populations and learn the various tools criminologists use to predict and explain seemingly random and unexplainable behaviors. The issues examined in our courses are plucked straight from the headlines of the news of our day–issues that desperately need the attention of students who are willing to devote their life’s work to something greater than themselves.

Job Opportunity Potential
Choose the UIS Career Development Center as your primary resource for connections and preparing for a successful future.
From Star Employer to Employer Spotlight
The Career Development Center recognizes employers who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting career opportunities, experiential learning, and career development for UIS students. In past years, a Star Employers ranking system was used to highlight organizations actively partnering with UIS in multiple ways. Currently, we have transitioned to the Employer Spotlight program to feature a different employer partner each month. The Employer Spotlight program allows students to obtain a closer look at the organization and their career opportunities through an exclusive Questions and Answers (Q&A) article.
Information Sessions/Open Houses
Host a company/organization presentation or a simple meet-and-greet event.
Showcase what your company/organization has to offer!
Info sessions give students and the campus community the chance to inquire in person about your company/organization and career opportunities.
Great way to inform students about any upcoming on-campus interviews that you may be conducting.
SHARE YOUR EXPERTISE
Want to take your Recruitment Plan to the next level? Go Beyond the Classroom and host these experiential learning opportunities that provide students and your employer significant advantages above other organizations and recruiters.
Serve as a Panelist / Presenter
The Career Development Center frequently hosts workshops and panel discussions on a variety of career topics such as industry trends, job search strategies, interviewing, and more! Additionally, employers may present a workshop on their own career development topic, such as “Finding Federal Employment.” Check this option if you would like to be contacted regarding participating in or presenting a workshop or panel discussion.
Critique Student Resumes
Many students use the Career Development Center for its resume and cover letter critiquing services. As a professional in the field, however, you have an expert eye to provide students with specific feedback on how to tailor their resume to an industry, type of career, or employer.
Serve on Advisory Board
In order to ensure that the UIS Career Development Center is meeting the needs of all students, serving employer recruitment needs, and staying current in an ever-changing job market, we may request your opinion and participation on an advisory board. Check this option if you would be willing to serve on a board or participate in a meeting. Host a Tour of my Workplace: Consider coordinating a “fieldtrip” for students to see your place of employment in action! Not only will it strengthen the relationship between the employer and students, but students will get a glimpse at your organization’s culture.
