Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering
The Ph.D. in Engineering Program at Rowan University effectively prepares individuals to respond to the changing needs of engineers today. Students will complete higher level coursework in technical topics and will develop and demonstrate applied skills in research, teaching, and communication leading to a terminal degree. Novel independent research conducted under the supervision of a faculty mentor will culminate in publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, presentations at scientific conferences, a dissertation, and potentially the generation of intellectual property. This program provides students with the necessary knowledge, skill set, and training to be leaders in the engineering workforce.
Unique to this program is that students will have the opportunity to learn how to effectively communicate with a wide spectrum of audiences in both oral and written forms. Enhanced learning of these skills can be accomplished via active participation in the Career Preparation and Readiness Experience (CPRE), which includes taking the Effective Teaching in Academic, Corporate, and Government Settings course, the Strategic Technical Writing and Winning Grant Proposals course, and the ToughTalk: Graduate Seminar in Engineering course.
