Master of Arts in Teaching (Special Education)

The Master of Arts in Teaching (Special Education) is an innovative program for special education para-educators holding a non-teaching baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and who are seeking licensure to teach in a secondary high-incidence special education setting. The purpose of this program is to train teachers for special education positions in both urban and rural schools. Candidates may be hired by a school district as the Teacher of Record (under the Limited Apprentice License) or must remain employed as a para-educator for the duration of the program.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

The transcript should clearly indicate:

  • all coursework and grades (or marks)
  • the degree awarded
  • the date the degree was awarded
  • the name of the institution where the degree was earned

Please note that a 2.7/4.0 converted grade point average is required for admission to any of our graduate programs.

The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is required only of students who are applicants to the Masters of Business Administration program. It is required of both American and International students.

If the opportunity to take the GMAT is not available in the home country, students may be admitted conditionally with the College of Business approval.

However, if the student does not receive the required GMAT score in the first term of study at Pittsburg State University, he or she will not be allowed full admission to the MBA program and will have to withdraw or select another major.
