Our department averages 100 music majors and 40 minors, and 200 non-music majors per semester, and is staffed by 13 full-time and 9 part-time faculty members. Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Qualified Admission Requirements for students who graduate high school in 2021 or after:

KANSAS AND OUT-OF-STATE FRESHMEN UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE

For automatic admission, graduates from an accredited high school must meet the following:

  • Graduate with a 2.25 or higher grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale

OR

  • ACT composite score of 21 or higher (SAT of 1060 or higher)

Qualified Admission Requirements for students who graduate high school prior to 2021:

KANSAS AND OUT-OF-STATE FRESHMEN UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE

For automatic admission, graduates from an accredited high school must meet the following:

  • Complete the Kansas pre-college curriculum (or the respective state precollege curriculum for non-residents)* with a 2.0 (2.5 for non-residents) or higher grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 Scale

AND meet one of the following requirements:

  • ACT composite score of 21 or higher (SAT of 1060 or higher), OR
  • Rank in the top one-third of graduating class

(If applicable, achieve at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale on all transferable college credits) Kansas precollege curriculum:

  • 4 units of English
  • 4 units of Math (Nothing below Algebra I will be accepted) OR 3 units and ACT Math score of 22 or complete 1 unit by achieving 3 college credits in College Algebra
  • 3 units of Natural Sciences (1 unit must be Chemistry or Physics)
  • 3 units of Social Sciences
  • 3 units of electives (English, Math, Natural Sciences, Social Science, Fine Arts, Computer Information Systems, Foreign Languages, Personal Finance, Speech, Debate, Forensics, Journalism and Career Technical Education)

For automatic admission, graduates from an unaccredited high school or homeschool must meet the following:

  • Complete the Kansas pre-college curriculum (or the respective state precollege curriculum for non-residents)* with a 2.0 (2.5 for non-residents) or higher grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 Scale

AND meet the following requirement:

  • ACT composite score of 21 or higher (SAT of 1060 or higher) (If applicable, achieve at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale on all transferable college credits) High school equivalency diploma recipients and incoming freshmen students 21 years of age and older can find admission requirements at pittstate.edu/admission.
