Advocacy (CertHE)
Advocacy empowers individuals to act independently, to champion rights, to become the voice of the community and to promote an inclusive society as part of their professional occupation or as an engaged, proactive citizen.
Employers and the service sector all recognise the importance of employing professionals who understand the complexity of modern social processes and policies, and who appreciate the breadth and variety of different value positions and different social, cultural and economic backgrounds. Moreover, with the introduction of the Social Services and Well-being Act (Wales) 2014, there is a statutory requirement to hear the voice of service users through the use of advocates.
The Certificate in Higher Education in Advocacy has been designed as a springboard for students wishing to enter professions working in diverse fields, for example, community education, education, health and/or social care, the Police services, the Probation Service, social enterprise, teaching, trade union representation, voluntary organisations and youth support.
