Islam in the Twenty-First Century (CertHE)
The Certificate will help you understand the influences which have impacted upon the development of Islam in the UK. You will get an introduction to the academic study of Islam and Muslims.
You will engage with the study of Islam and Muslims in the 21st century, and take part in informed discussion and exploration of relevant source materials associated with the study of Islam, by engagement with and critically analysis of diverse themes and academic approaches.
At the end of the programme, you will have acquired knowledge of key concepts impacting on Islam in the 21st Century. You will have developed understanding of the key resources necessary to present, evaluate and interpret central influences on Muslims in the UK. And you will be able to present awareness of the basic theories and concepts related to the study of Islam in the contemporary world.
In the course of your study, you will gain the practical skills necessary for research in the field, including library and internet research.
How will you study? All material, lectures and information will be available online, through the UWTSD Virtual Learning Environment. You will have the opportunity to engage with lecturers and other students both online and in person in weekend events in a UWTSD campus near you.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- Typically a minimum of two A-Levels and/ or other Level 3 qualifications or equivalent. There may be some specific course requirements to be taken into account.
Academic Qualifications
An overall average of 70% or above in Indian Standard XII
English Qualifications
or An overall English language level equivalent to an IELTS score of 5.0 with no lower than 4.5 in reading, speaking, listening and a minimum score of 5.0 in writing.
Indian Standard XII - 70% or above in English Language component, awarded within two years of applying to the University.
