Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
The Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) is designed to prepare students for beginning level, generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities. The focus of the BSW is oriented toward social work in northern and remote areas, Indigenous peoples, women, anti-oppressive practice, and community practice and research. Analysis of class, gender and race and ethnic relations are considered central to the social work program.

PSW Opportunity
If your program was less than 8 months
- You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.
If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.
If your program was 2 years or more
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
If you completed more than 1 program
- You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.
Each of the programs you completed -
- must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission requirements
The BSW will consist of one the following:
- Two years of general university studies (60 credit hours) or
- A diploma in a Social Service Worker program (54-60 credit hours) or
- A completed bachelor in a related discipline
and
- Two years (full-time) or two and a half years (part-time) of professional social work courses (60 credit hours)
- The BSW is articulated with recognized Social Services programs in Northern British Columbia.
Field Education
Social Work Field Education offers students an opportunity to develop their social work practice skills within an agency or community setting. A variety of placements are available, locally and in the region, and whenever possible the student's interests and learning needs will be matched with a suitable placement opportunity.
